Where can I find information on other software used in the department?

    GIMP
According to the official GIMP website, GIMP is "a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring," similar to Adobe Photoshop. Download the GIMP or check out the "Grokking the GIMP" tutorial.

    LaTeX2E
LaTeX is a typesetting system used for producing high-quality documents. See "The Not So Short Introduction to LATEX2E" for information on how to use it.

    UNIX
UNIX is a powerful multiuser, multitasking operating system. UNIX and its variants (such as GNU/Linux) are in widespread use throughout the computing world, including the ECEn department. See CAEDM's Knowledge Base and "UNIX Tutorial for Beginners" for help learning and using UNIX. There are also many excellent guides and tutorials available on the internet.

    Emacs
Emacs is a popular, and powerful text editing program found on many UNIX-based systems. For a beginner's guide to Emacs, see "EmacsNewbie."

    Vi
The Vi editor (and its derivatives, such as Vim) is another popular general-purpose text editor for UNIX systems. The Vi Lovers Home Page has links to a number of Vi/Vim tutorials.
