Right-click My Network Places and choose Properties. The "Network and Dial-Up Connections" window will open.

Choose to connect to a private network through the Internet, then click "Next".

Depending on the way your system is set up, you may be asked if you want to automatically open another connection when you start your VPN
connection. If you use a dial-up modem to connect to the internet, select if from the list. Otherwise, select "No". Click "Next" to continue.

Enter fortress.et.byu.edu as the name of the VPN server to connect to. Click "Next".

Choose whether or not to make the connection available to all users, then click "Next".

Type in a name for this connection, such as "CAEDM VPN". Click "Finish".

Before you connect to the VPN, you'll need to modify a few settings. In the "Network and Dial-Up Connections" window, right click on the connection you just created and
choose "Properties...".

Click on the Networking tab. Change the type of VPN to PPTP VPN, and uncheck "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks".

Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click the "Properties" button.

Select "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter the following for "Preferred DNS server:" 128.187.48.2

Click on the "Advanced..." button, and select the WINS tab.

Enter 10.8.125.201 in the box and click "Add".

Repeat the last two steps, entering the following value instead: 10.8.120.130

Click "OK", then "OK", then "OK" again to save all of your settings.

Double-click on "CAEDM VPN" in the Network Connections, enter your CAEDM username and password, and click "Connect" to connect. If everything works,
congratulations! You're done! If not, continue on to Part 2.
