How do I enable my account?
Account enabling is a two step process. Validating and enabling.
1
To validate your account, you must be registered for classes or be officially accepted into an ECEn major. Additionally, a faculty member may have your account validated for research.
2
To enable your account, Change your CAEDM account password and your ECEn account will be created/enabled with the new password. Once the account has been updated, it may take up to seven minutes before you may log in.
If you do not have a CAEDM account, contact the CAEDM SysOps. If you have changed your password in CAEDM and your account is not enabled, it is most likely because your account was not validated correctly (see above). If you continue to have difficulty, contact the ECEn SysOps.

How do I change my password?
The ECEn department now synchronizes its users' passwords with CAEDM. To change your ECEn password, you must change your CAEDM password. This can be done through the CAEDM Account Manager. (You can also set up a new CAEDM account, if needed.) Your new password will take effect within about 10 minutes.

What guidelines should I follow in choosing a secure password that will work on these machines?
Please refer to the password guidelines found in the CAEDM Knowledge Base.

What if I don't have important files in my account? Should I still bother choosing a secure password and keeping it secure?
Some users might think that they have no important files and, therefore, no need to be careful about their choice and protection of passwords. However, once an illegal user gains access to one account it is easier for him/her to gain additional unauthorized network access, so by not protecting your account you may be placing other users of the system at risk. it's also worth noting that by gaining access to your account a malicious user may be able to do damage that looks as though it has been done by you. Both for your own sake and for that of other system users we strongly encourage you to choose a secure password and maintain its secrecy.

When do accounts get disabled?
Accounts will be disabled if:
You have not changed your password within the last year. See "How Do I Change My Password?" (above) for more information.
You are over your disk space quota. See "Dealing With Disk Quotas" for more information.
You drop your ECEn classes or change your major.
Accounts are typically disabled the day before classes begin on any given semester or term, however, they may be disabled as early as the last day of finals of the previous semester or term. Please plan accordingly.

How do I reenable my account?
The following actions should reenable your account:
Change your password. See "How Do I Change My Password?" (above) for more information.
Make sure you are under your disk quota. See "Dealing With Disk Quotas" for more information.
If you still have problems, try logging into a CAEDM windows machine. Come visit or email the ECEn SysOps after you have tried this.
