The David C. Evans Conference on Computer Engineering Education

 David C. Evans

1924-1998

David C. Evans is a fine example of the pioneering spirit.  Through sacrifice and hard work, he established a prosperous business.  He made tremendous contributions to advanced technology, higher education, and economic development in Utah and beyond.  He is nationally and internationally recognized in his field for his innovative advances in computers and computer graphics.

Together, David and his wife, Joy, raised an outstanding family, fulfilled significant responsibilities in their church, and gave time and talents to improving their community.  It is fitting that we honor Dr. Evans.  For in him, we see a model of a person who emphasized both the academic and spiritual aspects of learning.  He is an admirable model of scholarship, leadership, and integrity, securely interlaced with faith and values.

The David C. Evans Chaired Professorship at Brigham Young University  was established in 1998 with contributions from several generous donors.   David Evans was a friend and frequent lecturer at Brigham Young University.  He and Joy have been generous benefactors of this institution.  This chair provides a way to perpetuate his influence in much the same manner as he did.  It allows outstanding faculty the opportunity to explore and develop new and far-reaching ideas in the field of computers and computer graphics.   In the spirit of a brilliant man who gave much to his industry and mentored dozens of the brightest minds in computer engineering,  this professorship and our conference on computer engineering education honors him and continues his work.
